IELTS Academic: Designed for individuals applying to universities or other educational institutions for academic purposes. It assesses language skills required for academic study.
IELTS General Training: Intended for individuals applying for non-academic training, work experience, or immigration purposes. It focuses on general language skills in social and workplace contexts.
Test Components:
Listening (30 minutes): You will listen to recordings of conversations, monologues, and discussions, and answer questions based on what you hear.
Reading (60 minutes): You will read a variety of texts and answer questions to demonstrate your understanding of main ideas, details, opinions, and more.
Writing (60 minutes):
- Task 1 (Academic): You will describe, summarize, or explain visual information (e.g., charts, graphs, diagrams).
- Task 1 (General Training): You will write a letter based on a situation.
- Task 2 (Both Versions): You will write an essay in response to a point of view, argument, or problem.
Speaking (11-14 minutes): A face-to-face interview with an examiner where you discuss a range of topics, express opinions, and engage in conversation.
Scoring:
- Each section (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) is scored on a scale from 0 to 9.

- Scores are reported as “bands,” with Band 1 being a non-user and Band 9 indicating an expert user.
